In this delicate and luminous artwork, two hands meet around a bouquet of flowers. One seems to offer, while the other receives. A simple gesture that evokes all that can be passed from one person to another: knowledge, values, stories, gestures, and ways of seeing the world.
Transmission was born from the idea that we are all shaped by what we receive from others. Some things are given to us, others are taught to us, and then comes the time when we transform them and pass them on in our own way.
This artwork also carries another form of transmission: the meeting of two artistic crafts.
I created the watercolor, and then Tamylia Savard of Fleurs nouées added her embroidery, extending the artwork through her own gesture, materials, and sensitivity.
Two artists, two mediums, two forms of craftsmanship coming together to create something neither of us could have created alone.
And perhaps that is also what transmission means: receiving something from someone, adding a little of yourself to it, and then allowing that creation to continue on its journey.
